The Republic is a secret organization whose members consist of representatives from UN countries. They function as a directorial body for G.E.N.E.S.I.S. and all other international organizations which deal with World Security.

The Republic (sometimes referred to mistakenly as The Illuminati), started out as a secret society of politically powerful men whose origins goes several centuries back. Through subtle, innocuous methods, the Republic has used their collective influences to dominate the world by manipulating present day governments, corporations, organized religions, organized crime and the global economy, either by attaining high ranking, authoritative positions within these arenas or via political puppets. The Republic was founded in the mid 7th century by Romulus , when he also founded Rome. He created a secret underground refuge beneath the city called The Sanctuary. This location was also where Romulus and his brother Remus were hidden from the wrath of Jupiter aka Zeus. During the time of the Crusades, the Republic was particularly interested in finding and acquiring artifacts of significant religious value, such as the Tome of Knowledge , the Spear of Destiny, the Holy Grail and a host of other religious and mystical items. The Knights Templar of the Order of Templar were ordered to seek out and store these items for safekeeping by Pope Clement V, to whom they answered exclusively. What they didn't realize at the time, was that Clement was secretly a member of the Republic and used them as expendable assets on behalf of the Republic. When Pope Clement and the Catholic Church secretly began to discredit the Templars, they also secretly met with King Philip IV of France (who was begrudgingly indebted to the Templars) and advise him to take advantage of this unique situation to eliminate the entire Order. Other motives may have included concern over perceived heresy, assertion of French control over a weakened Papacy and finally, the substitution of royal officials for officers of the Temple in the financial management of French government. The Knights Templar were successful in finding and obtaining the items on their itinerary, however their leader didn't trust the motives of Clement and hid the items in a secret location, while having duplicates created and delivered to the Pope and the Catholic Church. He entrusted the location to his lieutenant, Mon Brak Devonshire, who unknown to him was a member of another secret organization known as the Order of the Magen. Historically it is believed that Philip used his influence over Pope Clement V, who was largely his pawn, to disband the organization. Pope Clement did attempt to hold proper trials, but Philip used the previously forced confessions to have many Templars burned at the stake before they could mount a proper defense. The motives of the Republic (who were the real puppet masters) was to silence the Order from exposing their secret mission, the location of the items procured and the true motivations behind it all. Unbeknownst to Philip, Mon Brak Devonshire survived. He was ambused by Republic hired mercenaries and only managed to escape with the Tome of Knowledge. Near death, he delivered the tome to the Order of the Magen. As a reward for his service and a means of saving his life, Devonshire was brought before the founders of the Order, called the Council of Elders and appointed the guardian of the tome. He was already a skilled warrior and mystic/druid, having been raised and trained by the Order of the Magen, but was infused with the power and given the tools to become the most powerful mystic and sorcerer in existence. The Republic went on to secretly play a role in every major event in recorded history and some minor ones not recorded. Through their manipulation and influence, the world appeared to thrive and survive adversity. Good triumphed over evil. However, the less altruistic motivations of the Republic have yet to be revealed and their membership is an extremely well guarded secret.
